“There are things that ultimately present a challenge, and I believe that in such difficult moments a politician is obliged to be able to respond to those demands, not to be a coward, and I have taken this on, regardless of what I know about all sorts of assumptions, about the consequences. I am determined to go all the way, I am determined, and I am fully convinced that there will be a government by the end of this week, and in this way I believe we will all move into a new stage. We are fed up with this 40-day interim period; we can all see what it means in terms of the economic costs we are facing, and it is our duty, as those who do politics and who have the courage to take responsibility in such difficult moments, to pull the country out of the situation it is in,” Veștea said on Sunday on Antena 3 CNN.

He added that he will not use the 10-day deadline provided for by the Constitution to request an investiture vote.

“I will not use this deadline; I intend to do it as quickly as possible, and I do not think it is necessary for us to sit through debates, tensions and all sorts of ways of stirring up emotion in one side or another. I believe it is necessary for us to be pragmatic, which is something that characterises me anyway: I do not waste time, and I always want to use every part of the day and of my life efficiently,” the designated prime minister said.

Veștea also said there is an assessment that he will have the 233 votes needed in Parliament for it to pass.

“There is such an assessment; I had this discussion with two people who had made such an assessment, namely the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and Eugen Tomac, who had done the math. What was missing were precisely the votes that should come from the PNL,” he also said.

The designated prime minister also said he does not want a split in the PNL.

“I do not want, and I do not believe there will be, any split whatsoever. I think it should be a commitment we take on; I think you should be proud as a liberal (…), as long as you keep the same governing programme that we voted on last year for the Bolojan government,” Adrian Veștea explained.
