The Government decided in Thursday’s meeting to extend for another 6 months, i.e. until October 15, 2024, the validity of the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova regarding the coordinated control on Romanian territory at the Border Crossing Point Albita (Romania) – Leuseni (Republic of Moldova) by road, on the way to enter Romania.
According to a Government’s communiqué, the purpose of the implementation of the coordinated control is to streamline the flow of people, means of transport and goods that cross the state border through the respective border crossing point.
„The initial period of application of the Agreement was April 15, 2023-October 15, 2023, being extended for a period of 6 months, during the period October 15, 2023-April 15, 2024. Following the checks carried out at this border point, during the implementation of the Agreement, there was an improvement in traffic, in the sense of a decrease in the average waiting time for the flow of people, an aspect that is not found in the flow of means of transport. In this sense, it is necessary to extend this agreement by another 6 months, in the purpose of simplifying, streamlining and coordinating border traffic control”, the press release states.
At the same time, consideration will be given to the reorganization, as the case may be, of the flow of means of transport entering Romania, in the context of the implementation of projects aimed at the purchase of specific control equipment at the border crossing, after a joint analysis, of to the authorities involved, as well as the consequential updating/modification/completion of the Albita-Leuseni crossing point operating regulation, in the sense of entry into Romania, the cited source further states.
