The farmers’ vote is essential in expressing the real will of Romanian agriculture in Brussels, minister of agriculture and rural development Florin Barbu told a conference held on Wednesday in Baile Herculane.
He conveyed to the farmers that agricultural policies must be built in dialogue with farmers, so that „decisions reflect the real needs of the sector”.
„I will go to all the counties and consult with farmers before supporting in the Council of Ministers of the European Union the preservation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) separate from the cohesion funds and structured on two pillars – direct payments and investments in rural development. „The farmers’ vote is essential to express the real will of Romanian agriculture in Brussels,” the MADR official underscored.

According to a MADR (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) press release, sent to AGERPRES, the Minister of Agriculture is paying a working visit to Caras-Severin and Mehedinti counties, to analyze the implementation status of projects financed through the National Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 (PNDR).
On this occasion, in Baile Herculane, the minister met with farmers from the county, in an open dialogue regarding the needs of the agricultural sector, development opportunities and investment priorities for the coming period.
In this context, he reaffirmed the MADR’s commitment to support investments in the processing of agri-food products, as well as in animal husbandry. „From Eurostat data on the implementation of the 2 billion euros intended for processing in Romania, our country will become the most important food producer in southeastern Europe. In the coming years, through support measures we will aim to integrate plant production into the livestock sector, so that the raw material used in processing plants is of Romanian origin,” the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) also said.
On Wednesday, he also visited the pig farm of the Danubius Farm Agricultural Cooperative, a beneficiary of the Pig Breeders Support Programme for Breeding Activity. The investment consists of creating new accommodation places in a new breeding farm, and its value is 45,325,273 lei (9.2 million euros). The works are being carried out with non-refundable financial assistance of 90%, and the completion date is October 2025.
According to the MADR, Florin Barbu also paid a working visit to the Crivina-Vanju Mare Hydro-Amelioration Facility in Mehedinti County, to check the progress of the rehabilitation works of one of the most important irrigation systems on the left bank of the Danube.
Starting with August 2025, the authorities estimate that it will be possible to supply water to the already rehabilitated canals. Also during this year, the acquisition of aggregates for both pumping stations is planned, and the CD2 and CD3 canals are to be completed to a proportion of approximately 70%. The supply canal will also be completed, and the National Land Improvement Authority (ANIF) estimates that the execution works will be completed in the spring of 2026.
„By putting the entire system into operation, farmers in the southwest of Mehedinti County will benefit from a secure source of water for irrigation, which will contribute to reducing climate risks and increasing the stability of agricultural production,” say MADR representatives.
