AgriMin Barbu says 2028-2034 Agricultural Policy is to allocate 4 billion EUR for crop-livestock integration

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin Barbu stated on Tuesday in Zalau, that the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2028-2034 period will focus on crop-livestock integration, shifting away from the current subsidies for coupled support.

„Today, I want to publicly inform you that, in the upcoming 2028-2034 Agricultural Policy, over four billion EUR of this policy shall be allocated to livestock farming, in order to integrate crop with livestock production. You won’t see subsidies in Romania for coupled support, on certain eco-schemes, only if crop production is integrated with livestock production. I don’t want subsidies to go towards coupled support or to companies that are not even Romanian, but international,” minister Florin Barbu mentioned at a meeting with farmers and authorities of Salaj.

He added that there is an ambitious programme underway for the development of processing area in Romania, for which raw materials from our country are essentials.

He also pointed out that „he does not want these processing units to bring raw materials, however, we are talking about the livestock sector in Romania, whether it’s milk, meat, or other products, raw materials needed in the food industry, so that this raw material should be produced here, in Romania. And, that is why the entire programme we will launch from now on shall focus on crop-livestock integration.”

The upcoming programme, aimed at strengthening farms, including the 200,000 EUR and the 50,000 EUR grants for small farms, shall all include a component with an additional 50pct score for crop-livestock integration. So, these are successful projects. As I mentioned, we need raw materials from Romania,” the minister underscored.

Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu attended on Tuesday a meeting in Zalau, which was organized by the National Rural Network. The meeting, which brought together farmers, beneficiaries of European funding, central and local public authorities, focused on facilitating access to funds of the Common Agricultural Policy, as well as on identifying solutions for the challenges encountered in the implementation of European funds dedicated to agriculture and rural development.
