Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin Barbu is participating on Monday and Tuesday in the meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council, with discussion focusing on topics of major interest for the future of European agriculture and fisheries, with an impact over Romanian farmers and producers.
According to a Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) release sent to AGERPRES on Monday, within a public session, the European Commission will present the proposals for the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) post-2027, based on which the agriculture ministers will have the opportunity to hold a first policy debate. The discussions will be aimed at the Regulation regarding the CAP post-2027, the Regulation regarding the common market organization and the Regulation regarding the EU school scheme.
Further more, the ministers will also tackle matters regarding agri-food trade, a recurrent item of the Council’s agenda, in the context of recent developments on international markets.
The debates will also include the presentation and analysis regarding the EU’s support for the Common Fisheries Policy, the European Ocean Pact, as well as EU’s maritime and aquaculture policy for 2028-2034.
Another important point on the agenda is the exchange of views regarding the upcoming EU-UK and EU-Norway and coastal states fisheries consultations for 2026, the MADR release said.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the ministers will discuss ways to unlock smarter and simpler fisheries regulations. Moreover, the Council will also tackle a number of matters included in „Other items” section.
Romania’s participation in this Council reflects Romania’s firm commitment to promote the interests of Romanian farmers and fishermen, in the context of the drafting of future European policies in the area.
Alongside Minister Barbu, also attending the meeting will be Daniela Rebega, the Director General of the General Directorate for Rural Development – AM PNDR. AGERPRES
