The Russian Federation resumed drone attacks on civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine on Sunday night into Monday, near the border with Romania, and two Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft operated by German allies were scrambled to monitor the aerial situation, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) announced.
According to the Ministry, radar monitoring systems detected aerial targets in the direction of Ismail, and two Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft belonging to the German allies, part of the Enhanced Air Policing combat service, were scrambled to monitor the airspace.
The drones disappeared from radar, and explosions were shortly after reported in Ismail.
„There were no incursions of unmanned aerial vehicles into Romanian airspace, and the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft returned to the 57th Air Base at 01:01. At 01:45, following the detection of aerial targets 30 kilometres north of Snake Island, with possible trajectories toward Valcov, Chilia or Ismail, two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft of the Romanian Air Force were ordered to take off. At 02:20, authorities issued a RO-ALERT message for the northern part of Tulcea County,” the Ministry added.
During the mission, the F-16 aircraft reported aerial targets at various distances from Ismail, after which explosions were observed on the Ukrainian side. No drone incursions into national airspace were recorded in this instance either, and the F-16 aircraft returned to the 86th Air Base at 03:51, the Ministry reported.
The Ministry of National Defence noted that it remains in constant contact with allies and acts to ensure the security of Romania and NATO’s eastern flank. AGERPRES
