The Acting President of the Senate, Alina-Ștefania Gorghiu, participated on Tuesday in the First Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, held in Zagreb, Croatia, at the invitation of the President of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the President of the Croatian Sabor, Gordan Jandrokovic, according to a press release issued by the Romanian Senate.
The First Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea International Platform is a new format of international cooperation and coordination, launched by Ukraine in 2022. The initiative aims to encourage the coordination of the activities of national parliaments, as well as in inter-parliamentary gatherings regarding the illegal occupation of the Crimean Peninsula by the Russian Federation . Also, other goals include intensifying international pressure on the Kremlin, preventing further human rights violations, protecting the victims of the occupation regime, liberating Crimea and its peaceful return to Ukraine, states the release.
At the same time, the high Romanian dignitary reiterated Romania’s commitment to actively participate in the reconstruction process of Ukraine, pointing out the substantial contribution of the Romanian state to the facilitation of Ukrainian grain exports through Romanian ports on the Black Sea.
Alina Gorghiu also welcomed the decision of the European Council in June regarding the granting of candidate status for accession to the European Union.
The First Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform was also attended by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the President of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, the President of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic Czech Markéta Pekarová Adamová Vice President of the French National Assembly Valérie Rabault Vice President of the European Parliament Othmar Karas President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Gerald E. Connolly, according to the press release.
