Almost 59,000 natural, legal persons doing business registered over Jan – May 2024

The number of new registrations of individuals and legal entities doing business in Romania was 10.89 percent down over January – May 2024 from the same period of the previous year, to 58,876, of which 43,251 (73.46 percent) were limited liabilities, and 13,229 (22.47 percent) were self-employed, shows data centralized by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

Most registrations were in Bucharest – 13,532 (up 2.98 percent from the year-ago period), and in the counties of Ilfov – 3,378 (-1.86 pct ), Cluj – 3,020 (-16.30 pct), Timis – 2,666 (-11.16 pct), and Brasov – 2,149 (-4.32 pct).

The lowest number of registrations over the first five months of the year occurred in the counties of Covasna – 288 (-28.71 percent year-over-year), Tulcea – 377 (-18.22 pct), Ialomita – 393 (-9.66 pct) and Caras-Severin – 401 (-21.22 pct).

The business areas with most registrations are wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 11,581 (-5.51 pct), transportation and storage – 7,255 (+4.81 pct), and construction – 5,881 (-12.33 pct).
