Annual inflation rate, 9.8% in October

The annual inflation rate was, in October 2025, 9.8%, under conditions in which non-food goods increased in price by 10.96%, services by 10.52% and food goods by 7.57%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, published on Wednesday.

In September, the annual inflation rate was 9.88%.

„The consumer price index in October 2025 compared to September 2025 was 100.50%. The inflation rate since the beginning of the year (October 2025 compared to December 2024) was 9.0%. The annual inflation rate in October 2025 compared to October 2024 was 9.8%. The average rate of change in consumer prices in the last 12 months (November 2024 – October 2025) compared to the previous 12 months (November 2023 – October 2024) was 6.6%,” the Statistics press release states.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in October 2025 compared to September 2025 was 100.55%. The annual inflation rate in October 2025 compared to October 2024 calculated on the basis of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 8.4%. The average rate of change in consumer prices in the last 12 months (November 2024 – October 2025) compared to the previous 12 months (November 2023 – October 2024) determined on the basis of the HICP was 6.2%.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has revised upwards to 8.8% the inflation forecast for the end of 2025, indicating that it is likely to exceed 9%, from 4.6% previously, and anticipates that it will reach 3% at the end of 2026, compared to 3.4% in the previous forecast.AGERPRES
