A new group of 74 people in vulnerable situations, Romanian citizens and next of kins – mostly women, children, medical patients, people in the maximum risk area – was assisted for repatriation from Lebanon, being transported to Romania in an aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
The humanitarian flight took place in the context of the transport on Friday morning of humanitarian aid offered free of charge by Romania to the civilian population in Lebanon.
According to MAE, the 74 persons were assissted by the staff of the Romanian Embassy in Beirut and by two mobile consular teams from the Rapid Reaction Unit of the MAE in order to issue the travel documents and fulfil all the boarding formalities. Also, steps were taken, with the relevant local authorities, to carry out the flight safely.
Upon the arrival in the country of the Romanian citizens and their family members, the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide the necessary assistance in close cooperation with non-governmental organisations and the Bucharest City Hall.
MAE and the Romanian Embassy in Lebanon will stay in close contact with the Romanian citizens and their family members having informed about their presence and registered with the diplomatic mission. According to the Romanian ministry, over 1,100 Romanian citizens have registered.
