APEC summit | Kamala Harris: The United States is here to stay

Published on

US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Friday in Bangkok that the United States is committed to Asia for the long term, rejecting doubts raised by the expansion of China’s influence, AFP reports, Agerpres reads.

Addressing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok, Kamala Harris described the United States as the ‘proud power of the Pacific’ and said that the many security alliances created by the US over time have allowed Asia to thrive.

„The United States is here to stay,” she assured some company heads on the sidelines of the meeting, which was also attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

„Our message is clear: the United States has an enduring commitment to the Indo-Pacific, a commitment that is not measured in years, but in decades and generations,” she said, using America’s preferred term for Asia.
