Mircea Geoana, candidate for the presidential elections, stated on Friday that, as head of state, he will particularly follow the implementation of the calendar assumed by the Government for the indexation of the pensions of people with disabilities, who come from mining, the nuclear industry, the steel industry, railway pensioners and for the correction of all the problems arising in the recalculation process.

„The pension law was one of the most awaited by Romanians, because it promised the correction of inequities and a new, revolutionary, calculation system. Instead, we saw wrong calculations, pensioners with their pension cut in half, including the most vulnerable categories were wronged. The visually-impaired people’s protest, in Victoriei Square, is a cry for the right to a dignified life, in a fair Romania with every citizen, and the announcement of the governors, who calmly tell us that they will solve the situation, is not enough,” Geoana wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the authorities are obliged to ensure that such situations will not exist again.

„They are obliged to ensure that such situations will no longer exist, by de-politicizing state institutions, hiring competent and dedicated people for the position they have chosen, promoting Romanian capital and increasing investments. This is the only way we will ensure that we can support a system of pensions that will offer Romanians a decent living after a working life. As president, I will especially monitor the implementation of the calendar assumed by the Government for the indexation of pensions for people with disabilities, who come from the mining, nuclear industry, steel industry, railway pensioners and for the correction of all the problems that appeared in the recalculation process”, Mircea Geoana said.
