Assets of optional pension funds at RON 5.05 bln as of end-April

Romania’s mandatory private pension funds had assets worth 135.5 billion RON (1 euro = 4.96 RON) at the end of April 2024, up 28.8% compared to the same date in 2023, according to statistics from the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

„93.6% of the investments of privately managed pension funds were in Romanian assets, most of which were denominated in RON. A large part of the Romanian instruments are represented by government securities or shares listed on the BVB [Bucharest Stock Exchange],” the report states.

According to the cited source, the contributions collected in April 2024 amounted to 1.45 billion RON, while the average contribution was 357 RON.

At the end of April, government securities held the largest share, standing at 88.143 billion RON, or 65.1%. Shares came in second, at 33.89 billion RON (25%), and Corporate bonds ranked third, at 6.496 billion RON (4.8% of total assets).

According to the ASF, mandatory private pension funds had 8,204,485 participants in April 2024.

The following pension funds are active under Pillar II: Metropolitan Life, Aripi, AZT Viitorul tau, BCR, BRD, NN and Vital.
