AUR MP Dan Tanasă questioned by prosecutors over posts inciting a boycott of immigrants (sources)

AUR MP Dan Tanasă was questioned on Friday at the Prosecutor General’s Office over Facebook posts in which he urged Romanians to boycott migrant workers, judicial sources told AGERPRES.

According to the sources cited, the case involves investigations into incitement to violence, hatred or discrimination against certain persons or groups.

A few hours after the hearing, AUR leader George Simion reacted in a Facebook post: “Attention! The attacks on AUR have begun – Dan Tanasă has just left prosecutor Rareș Stan, the same one who stole our phones before the European Parliament elections.”

On 19 August 2025, Dan Tanasă posted a message on a social media platform urging Romanians to refuse deliveries made by immigrants.

“Refuse the delivery if it is not made by a Romanian. Stop encouraging the import of unskilled workers from Asia and Africa. Wake up!”, Tanasă wrote on Facebook.

Shortly afterwards, police officer Marian Godină announced that he had filed a criminal complaint against Dan Tanasă.

“Rather than leave to others what I can do myself, I have filed a criminal complaint against AUR MP Dan Tanasă for the offense of ‘Incitement to violence, hatred or discrimination’ under Article 369 of the Criminal Code,” Godină said.

A week later, Dan Tanasă said he would not “keep silent” when “Romanians are mocked in their own country”.

“I will not stop denouncing the plans of those in power to turn Romania into a colony of cheap labour, with no rules and no respect for its citizens. And if this bothers people, it means I am hitting exactly the sore points that some are desperately trying to hide. I have been, I am and I will remain a defender of Romanians’ right to live safely, with dignity and respect in their own country. The rest is background noise,” Tanasă said.
