The chairman of Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), George Simion, filed a complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office against the liberal leader Nicolae Ciuca, the president of the Senate, „for embezzlement of public funds”.
„I came to the Prosecutor’s Office today to make a complaint against Nicolae Ciuca. Let’s see if the politicized institution called the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice will consider this complaint, as justified as possible, for” misappropriation of public funds, for the illegal use of the subsidy for public purposes” (…). We have here, in this complaint, exactly the steps we took during the election campaign month, between May 10 and June 9, when it was forbidden to have propaganda and political panels in the public space. Forbidden for us, for the opposition parties, because the PNL did not take into account this complaint and the electoral offices which the PNL members were a part of decided that it was not political propaganda, it has nothing to do with political activity,” declared Simion.
The complaint is also motivated by another case, that of the former Social Democratic Party (PSD) treasurer, Mircea Draghici, „who, for his own purposes, used the subsidy money,” Simion said.
„I expect the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the ICCJ to do its job, to stop persecuting the opposition with invented accusations and to go towards the sums embezzled from the Romanians’ money. It is about two million euros. The complaint is against Nicolae Ciuca. We demand the investigation of the money from the subsidies,” concluded Simion.
