The average monthly income accounted for 8,568 RON per household in the fourth quarter of 2024, in nominal terms, 3,424 RON per person, with total spending accounting for 7,277 RON per household (2,908 RON per person), according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics.
Average monthly income was, in the last quarter of 2024, 7,958 RON per month per household (3,181 RON per person), up 3% compared to the third quarter of 2024, and income in kind was 609 RON per month per household (244 RON per person), up 15.2%.
Gross salaries and other bonuses amounted to 5,654 RON per month per household and formed the most important source of total income (66% of total household income, down 0.3 percentage points compared to Q3 2024).
According to the same source, a significant contribution to the total household income was made by both income from social benefits, of 1,802 RON per month per household (21% in the fourth quarter of 2024, respectively, 21.2% in the third quarter of 2024 of total household income), and income in kind (7.1% in the fourth quarter of 2024, respectively, 6.4% in the third quarter of 2024), consisting of the value of income in kind obtained by employees and beneficiaries of social benefits (1.7% in the fourth quarter of 2024, respectively, 1.4% in the third quarter of 2024) and the value in RON of agri-food and non-food products consumed from own resources (5.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024, respectively, 5.0% in the third quarter of 2024).
Regarding the area of residence, the average monthly total income level per household in urban areas was 9,454 RON, 1.3 times higher than in rural areas, and per person 4,045 RON, 1.5 times higher than in rural areas.
From the point of view of the structure of total income, in the fourth quarter of 2024, in urban areas, the share of gross salaries and other salary rights in total income was 71.8%, 14.8 percentage points higher than in rural areas, while the share of income from social benefits was 21%, both in urban and rural areas. The share of income in kind was 11.6% in rural areas, 2.8 times higher than in urban areas.
Average monthly cash expenditures amounted, in the last quarter of 2024, to 6,814 RON per household (2,723 lei per person), 3.3% higher than in the third quarter of 2024.
The equivalent value of the consumption of agri-food and non-food products from own resources, in the fourth quarter of 2024, was, on average, 462 RON per household per month (185 lei per person), up 11.7% compared to the third quarter of 2024.
