The average monthly pension increased by 0.3% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of this year, while the average number of pensioners rose to 4.921 million, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.
According to the quoted source, in the third quarter of 2025 the average number of pensioners was 4.921 million people, up by 3,000 compared with the second quarter of 2025. The average number of state social insurance pensioners was 4.569 million people, an increase of 7,000 compared with the previous quarter.
The average monthly pension, calculated by taking into account the gross amounts paid for all categories of pensioners, including social insurance, disability, survivors and others, by the pension funds, stood at 2,941 lei, up 0.3% compared with the previous quarter. The real average pension index compared with the previous quarter was 94.1%.
Compared with the third quarter of the previous year, in the third quarter of this year the average number of pensioners decreased by 44,000 people, while the number in the state social insurance category fell by 28,000 people. The average monthly pension and the average monthly state social insurance pension increased compared with the same quarter of the previous year by 13.9% and 14.5% respectively.
INS data also show that the average number of pensioners increased by 3,000 people compared with the previous quarter, as did the average number of state social insurance pensioners, which rose by 7,000 people.
