Average monthly pension reaches 2,418 RON in Q1 2024, up 13.8 pct

The average monthly pension increased by 13.8% in the first quarter, compared to the previous quarter, to 2,418 RON, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday. (1 euro = 4.97 RON)

The average number of pensioners was 4.977 million, down 4,000 from the previous quarter. The average number of state social security pensioners stood at 4.602 million, down 4,000 from the previous quarter.

The real average pension index compared to the previous quarter, calculated as the ratio of the nominal pension index for calculating the real pension to the consumer price index, was 110.4%.

According to official statistics, social security pensioners hold the majority share (99.98%) in the total number of pensioners. State social insurance pensioners account for 92.5% of all social insurance pensioners.

The ratio of the average number of state social insurance pensioners to the average number of employees was 8 to 10. According to INS, this ratio shows significant variations in territorial profile, from 4 pensioners to 10 employees in Bucharest and Ilfov county, to 15 pensioners to 10 employees in Teleorman county, respectively to 14 pensioners to 10 employees in Vaslui county.
