The average net salary dropped down to 5,158 RON in August this year, which is 84 RON (-1.6%) lower than in July 2024, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of statistics (INS).

The average gross salary stood at 8,443 RON, 137 RON (-1.6%) lower than in the previous month.

The highest values of the average net salary were recorded in information technology service activities, including computer service activities (11,204 RON), and the lowest in the manufacture of clothing items (2,972 RON).

In August 2024, in most activities in the economic sector, the average net salary decreased compared to July 2024, as a result of the granting in the previous months of occasional premiums, rights in kind and financial aid, amounts from the net profit and from other funds (including banknotes).

Also, the decreases in the average net salary were determined by production failures, lower receipts (depending on contracts/projects), or as a result of vacations when meal vouchers and other salary rights are not granted.

On the other hand, increases in the average net salary compared to the previous month were determined by the granting of occasional bonuses (quarterly bonuses, loyalty bonuses or special performance bonuses), rights in kind and financial aid, amounts from the net profit and from other funds (including bills of value), but also production achievements or higher receipts (depending on contracts/projects).

The most significant increases in the average net salary were recorded as follows: by 7.9% in auxiliary activities for financial intermediation, insurance activities and pension funds; between 2% and 3.5% in motion picture, video and television programme production activities, audio recording and music editing activities (including broadcasting and programme transmission activities), mining of metallic ores, manufacturing of tobacco products, research- development; between 1% and 2% in hotels and restaurants, other extractive activities, beverage manufacturing, food industry, water transport.

In the budget sector, there were decreases in the average net salary compared to the previous month in public administration (-1.4%), respectively in education (-0.7%). The average net salary increased compared to the previous month in health and social assistance (+1.9%).
