The average net wage in Romania was standing at RON 4,003 in September 2022, up RON 70 or 1.8% from the previous month, with the largest amounts reported in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (RON 16,085), and the smallest in hotels and restaurants (RON 2,233), according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Agerpres reports.
In the public sector, in September 2022 there were monthly increases in the average net wages in education (+8.8%, as a result of the resumption of hourly pay for teaching staff), and in public administration (+1 %). In healthcare and social work, the average net wage decreased slightly from the previous month (-0.4%).
In September 2022, the average gross wage was RON 6,457 lei, 109 lei (+1.7%) higher than in August 2022.
As against September 2021, the average net wage was up 13.8%.
Also, the increases in the average net wage were the result of production gains or higher revenues.
Regarding the wage gain against the rises in consumer prices, INS says the index of the real wage gain was 98.2% in September 2022 as against September 2021, and the index of the real wage gain was 100.5% in September 2022 as against August 2022.
Against October 1990, the real wage gain index was 219.0%, 0.9 percentage points higher than the one recorded in August 2022.
