Babes-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca has announced the establishment, for the first time in the Romanian academic environment, of an endowment fund, a strategic financial mechanism designed to support academic excellence and ensure the long-term sustainability of university projects.
„The endowment fund is an internationally recognized practice used by the world’s most prestigious universities. It involves attracting donations/financial resources and investing them responsibly to generate a steady and predictable additional income. These revenues will be used to finance research and innovation, directly contributing to the strengthening of the university’s mission,” UBB said in a press release on Monday.
The initiative reflects UBB’s strategic vision regarding the essential role a world-class university must assume in a competitive international context: developing modern financial instruments capable of supporting innovation, excellence, and social impact.
„The creation of the endowment fund represents a strategic investment in the sustainable development of UBB. Through this mechanism, the university consolidates its financial autonomy, lays the groundwork for attracting new funding sources, and reaffirms its commitment to world-class education,” said UBB Rector Prof. Dr. Adrian Petrusel.
In doing so, UBB demonstrates that it remains a forward-looking academic institution, capable of implementing sustainable and adaptable financial solutions to support its educational and research mission. The endowment fund also stands as a symbol of transparency, long-term commitment, and authentic partnership between the university, the business community, alumni, and society as a whole.
