The deposits of residents of non-governmental clients increased in May 2024 by 0.5% compared to the previous month, to the level of 592.575 billion RON, and compared to the same period of the previous year they increased by 11% (5.6% in terms reals), informs the National Bank of Romania (BNR), through a press release.
Deposits in RON of residents, with a weight of 70.7% in the total deposits of non-governmental clients, increased by 0.7% compared to April 2024, up to 418.806 billion RON. Compared to May 2023, they increased by 15.2% (9.6% in real terms).
Household deposits in RON decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, up to 230.987 billion RON, and increased by 21.3% (15.4% in real terms) compared to the same period of the year previous.
Deposits in RON of other sectors (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) increased by 1.7% (up to 187.818 billion RON) compared to the previous month, and compared to May 2023, it registered an increase of 8,5% (3.2% in real terms).
Foreign currency deposits of residents, expressed in RON, representing 29.3% in the total volume of deposits of non-governmental clients, increased by 0.05% compared to April 2024, reaching the level of 173.769 billion RON (expressed in EUR, it increased by 0.03%, up to 34.916 billion euros). Compared to May 2023, the indicator expressed in RON increased by 2.0% (1.9%, if the indicator is expressed in EUR).
Foreign currency deposits of households, expressed in RON, decreased by 0.2% compared to April 2024, up to 120.352 billion RON (similar evolution in the case of expressing the indicator in euros). Compared to the same period of 2023, the decrease of this indicator expressed in RON was 0.3% (-0.5%, if the indicator is expressed in euros).
Foreign currency deposits of other sectors, expressed in RON, increased by 0.7% compared to April 2024, up to 53.417 billion RON (expressed in euros, it increased by 0.6%, up to 10.733 billion Of euro). Compared to May 2023, the indicator expressed in lei increased by 7.8% (7.7%, if the indicator is expressed in euros).
