Bank deposits of firms, households up by 0.7% in August

In August 2024, the deposits of non-governmental clients residents increased by 0.7% compared to the previous month, up to the level of 591.511 billion RON, and compared to the same period of the previous year they increased by 10, 9% (5.5% in real terms), according to the data of the central bank, published on Tuesday.

Deposits in RON of residents, with a weight of 70.7% in the total deposits of non-governmental clients, increased by 1.0% compared to July 2024, up to 417.989 billion RON. Compared to August 2023, they increased by 15.2% (9.7% in real terms).

Household deposits in RON increased by 0.5% compared to the previous month, up to 237.238 billion RON and by 19.6% (13.8% in real terms) compared to the same period of the previous year.

Deposits in RON of other sectors (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) increased by 1.7% (up to 180.751 billion RON) compared to the previous month, and compared to August 2023 they registered an increase of 10% (4, 7% in real terms).

Residents’ foreign currency deposits, expressed in RON, representing 29.3% of the total volume of non-governmental clients’ deposits, decreased by 0.1% compared to July 2024, reaching the level of 173.521 billion RON (similar evolution in the case of expressing the indicator in euros). Compared to August 2023, the indicator expressed in RON increased by 1.5% (0.8%, if the indicator is expressed in euros).

Foreign currency deposits of households, expressed in RON, decreased by 0.4% compared to July 2024, up to 119.435 billion RON (similar evolution in the case of expressing the indicator in euros). Compared to the same period of 2023, the increase of this indicator expressed in RON was 0.3% (-0.5%, if the indicator is expressed in euros).

Foreign currency deposits of other sectors, expressed in RON, increased by 0.6% compared to July 2024, up to 54.085 billion RON (expressed in euros, they increased by 0.5%, up to 10.867 billion euro). Compared to August 2023, the indicator expressed in RON increased by 4.5% (3.7%, if the indicator is expressed in euros).
