Benjamin Netanyahu wins defamation lawsuit against Ehud Olmert

Published on

Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu won, on Monday, a defamation lawsuit against a predecessor who claimed that Netanyahu, his wife and their son were mentally ill, Reuters reports, Agerpres reads.

Ehud Olmert, who was Israel’s prime minister from 2006 to 2009, made the slanderous accusations in a television interview last year, shortly before Netanyahu, then leading an interim government, was ousted by an alliance of rival parties.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s lawyer welcomed the court’s decision, which he described as „the destruction of another slander”, an allusion to his client’s claim of innocence in three other corruption trials that overshadowed his last term as prime minister and complicated his efforts to form a government.
