Digitisation, combined with education, plays a crucial role in strengthening financial stability and stimulating Romania’s economic development. Investments in this process, as well as in cybersecurity, are not merely an option but a necessity, according to Chief Economist of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Valentin Lazea.
„The National Bank of Romania recognises the vital importance of digitisation in transforming our economy and ensuring financial stability. In a constantly changing world, it is imperative to adopt technological innovations and develop solutions that not only support economic growth but also protect the interests of consumers and financial institutions. I want to emphasise that investments in digitisation and cybersecurity are not just an option, they are a necessity. They form the foundation on which we can build a future where innovation and efficiency go hand in hand with security and responsibility. Digitisation, combined with education, plays a crucial role in strengthening financial stability and stimulating Romania’s economic development. Today, we are discussing digitisation in key areas such as the economy, health, communications, and Romania’s security,” Lazea said on Friday at the D-TECH Forum.
The BNR Chief Economist also highlighted the importance of people in these processes, stressing the need for education in this field.
„Let’s not forget about people, because, as any cybersecurity expert can confirm, there’s no point in implementing the most sophisticated and powerful security systems if the human link is not also strengthened and educated. I believe this is an excellently timed moment to have this high-level executive debate, because we can finally focus on Romania’s development, on macroeconomic strengthening, and on providing a strong growth environment for job creators and for every Romanian citizen,” he said.
The first edition of the D-Tech Forum 2025 in Bucharest, a regional summit aimed at aligning visions on digitisation and cybersecurity within the context of the European Competitiveness Plan, is being held on Friday at the National Bank of Romania (BNR) headquarters. The event is attended by, among others, Vice-President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu.
Also participating in the forum are representatives of Romanian institutions responsible for digitisation and cybersecurity, alongside top figures from the private sector and cybersecurity experts from other countries in the region.
According to the organisers, some of the topics proposed for debate include: ensuring democratic access to the digital society and services, AI applications in digital service automation, applications for 5G/6G networks and technology, universal access to electronic payments, ensuring privacy versus combating terrorism, cybersecurity regulation, the human factor in cyber risk assessment, as well as more technical topics such as mobile device security and protecting equipment in the Internet of Things (IoT).
