Bode: It is possible that the PNL, on 9 June, will win the local election

Published on

It is possible for the National Liberal Party to win the local election, the PNL secretary general Lucian Bode said on Wednesday, noting that the Liberals enter the electoral race „with their heads held high”, having managed to submit complete lists of candidates in 95% of localities, unlike the Social Democratic Party (PSD) – 90%, the Alliance of the Union of Romanians (AUR) – 50% and United Right Alliance (Alianta Dreapta Unita) – 30%.

„I think we are entering these electoral battles of 2024 with our most valuable resource, human resource. We have the most valuable human resource of all political competitors who entered this competition on June 9,” Bode said at the Regional Conference „Europe in every locality”, organized by TNL (Liberal Youth) Bucharest.

The PNL secretary general said that the liberal model of governance is the most pro-European, balanced, focused on investments and development.

„Some are trying, through a demolishing and hateful speech, to hijack Romania’s European path, to somehow turn eastward. We will not let them, and our role is to shield against this rise of extremism masquerading as a motley and misunderstood sovereigntism, in a Putinist model, which poisons societies and strangles their ideals and development. Do you think that Russia’s trolls and trumpets come up with a country project, of construction, of development? Absolutely not. They come with propaganda from the East that has divided Europe and brought war and unrest back to Europe after many years of peace. On 9 June, we also have the chance to keep them all out of Europe and hit them where it hurts most: to tax them at the polls. They are liars and cynics, they get under the skin like snakes, they inoculate venom and they poison society. This is the danger of extremism that all of us, and especially you, young people, must be aware of this year,” Bode added.

He stressed that, historically, Romanians have never had „Russian nostalgia” because „too much pain and humiliation came from the east.”

„Today’s Europe is and must remain a place of peace, of the joy of living, of being free, of deciding one’s fate, not even a millimeter of this continent can return under the dark clouds of suffering and terror. As politicians we have a responsibility and we will fight to defend the values that have brought us today’s development and well-being,” Bode said.
