Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in preparation for the meeting of NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers in Bucharest, context in which the two officials talked about the situation in Ukraine among other topics, informs a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to Agerpres.

The two dignitaries agreed on the importance that, in the current security context, NATO and its allies continue to provide the necessary support to the authorities in Kyiv to strengthen resilience in the face of the unprecedented threats they are facing. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the constant support provided by Romania to Ukraine, also mentioning our country’s recent decision to contribute with 400,000 euros to the Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine, made available by NATO, the cited source shows.

The two officials discussed the stage of the preparation of the meeting, especially with regard to the substance and priorities of the agenda and the documents to be adopted by the ministers.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu and NATO Secretary General highlighted the importance of the discussions in Bucharest, during which the implementation process of the historic decisions adopted in July 2022 at the NATO Summit in Madrid will primarily be evaluated. In this sense, Minister Aurescu referred to the fact that the event in Bucharest will be centered on reconfirming the strategic importance of the Black Sea for Euro-Atlantic security and NATO’s commitment to the security of the allied states on the Eastern Flank.

NATO Secretary General thanked the head of the Romanian diplomacy for the preparations in view of Bucharest hosting the NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting, as well as for our country’s leadership in advancing some topics of immediate interest for Euro-Atlantic security, including with regard to the promotion of NATO’s Open Door policy, as well as with a view to supporting the most vulnerable partners, including Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, states that are invited and will participate in the meeting that will begin on November 29 in Bucharest.

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of Finland and Sweden will participate in the Bucharest Meeting, along with the heads of diplomacy of the 30 NATO member countries, NATO Secretary General and other senior political and military officials of the Alliance, as states invited to join NATO, as well as the Foreign Affairs ministers of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, partner states of the Alliance.
