The ousted Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, has issued a statement thanking Romanians for “putting up with the hardships” and asserting that the austerity measures were intended to address the budget deficit.
“Thank you, dear Romanians, for enduring the hardships involved in putting the country’s finances in order. These were not an end in themselves or a choice, but a price to pay for reconstruction and future prosperity,” says Ilie Bolojan in a Facebook post.
Ilie Bolojan, the most unpopular prime minister according to polls, asserts that the measures that brought people out onto the streets during his 10-month term were intended to correct “injustices.” We recall that the head of the Executive cut benefits for vulnerable groups and carried out layoffs in the administrative apparatus.
“Dear Romanians, it has been an honor for me to serve our country for 10 months as prime minister. I did everything in my power to bring order to Romania’s finances, correct injustices, and promote reforms to modernize Romania. Most importantly, I have proven that a different way of governing is possible,” the prime minister added after being dismissed.
“I thank those with whom I have collaborated as a team over these 10 months, for a different model of governance. I have met many fine people, from the most humble positions to the highest offices,” the prime minister added.
Ilie Bolojan believes he established a model of governance “without arrogance” and without wasting public funds.
“Together, we have proven that it is possible to govern by the rules, without wasting public funds and without arrogance. After 10 months, the inevitable has happened. When you challenge privileges and shine a light on them, the reactions are commensurate. Until my last day in this position, I will work for Romania’s interests and will not abandon the principles I have upheld throughout my career,” the prime minister further states in his social media post.
After his experience as head of the Executive, Bolojan says he has no intention of changing his approach and is determined to continue the “fight” for the country’s future.
“All the support I have received, especially in the last month, motivates me to move forward, to continue fighting for Romania and its future. One chapter ends, another begins; the values I fight for remain the same, and it is essential that I feel you by my side,” the prime minister concluded.
