Membership of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will be an anchor for Romania’s further development, declared interim president Ilie Bolojan, on Wednesday, at the conference „Romania and OECD – The main country project after NATO, EU and Schengen”, organized at Cotroceni Palace.
„I believe that this membership of this organization will be an anchor for the further modernization of our country, for the strengthening of its position among democracies, for an open economy, all of which are reflected in gains and benefits for all Romanians. And I believe that among the advantages of joining this organization is also an added attraction for investments in Romania, it means a consolidation of our country’s position in relation to international institutions, access to a vast specialized expertise in taking over the best possible public policies, which will allow us to create conditions for development from Bucharest to the borders of the country. We believe in collaboration between states and we consider it essential in our foreign policy and I believe that we could also contribute after we become members of the OECD to enriching the activity of this organization and to its consolidation at the global level,” said Bolojan.
The interim president stated that „it is not a president or a government that changes a country, but the people of that country, the companies that invest.”
„But it is true that governments and administrations create the conditions, a context for the people of our country to showcase their talents, creativity and for companies and businessmen to be able to do successful business and to prosper and in turn create development and prosperity around them. (…) Symbolically, I believe that we can join our efforts, both those of us in the administration and those who participate in this process in order to have better regulations in the coming period, which will create better conditions for development, so that people can make correct decisions, to do everything in our power to have the best possible governance, to access European funds, to keep deficits under control, to create conditions in which work and performance are rewarded, and lack of performance is discouraged, and in this way you, those who are holding Romania back, Romanians and „The companies that have invested in Romania will truly be able to create added value and these conditions for a better life in our country,” added Bolojan.
He stressed the importance of capitalizing on the opportunities offered by Romania’s accession to the OECD, namely more investments, more efficient administration and a stronger Romania in the world.
