Bolojan supports a center-right pole of political forces

Published on

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan expressed his support on Wednesday for a union of center-right forces, in a „strong” political pole.

He mentioned that the formation of large political blocs is useful in the context of single-round local elections, so that votes do not crumble.

„If we take into account the voting system in Romania, of first-round elections, this voting system leads you to larger blocs. And, from my political experience, political fragmentation does not help you to have stability in a Local Council, nor in Parliament – you can see what is happening at the moment – nor does it allow you to produce results. And if we are rational people, I think we should do what is in our power, as well as in the center-right area to reunite forces. Otherwise, political forces that may not cross the electoral threshold cannot capitalize on the votes of their supporters. I have constantly tried to be part of solutions in the center-right area for 20 years, so that we have a strong pole. To what extent this will be achieved or not in the coming years, remains to be seen,” said Ilie Bolojan, for Digi FM.

Asked if he supports a PNL – USR alliance, Bolojan replied that such alliances must be built „naturally”, based on trust.

„Political reality forces us to consider larger blocs. It’s good to create a somewhat doctrinaire bloc, which has a basis for collaboration. And yes, such a thing is possible. (…) These things, these alliances must be done naturally, they must be done on the basis of trust, and they must be built, how can I tell you… This is built day by day or broken day by day. The same is true in coalition relations. If someone attacks a minister, if the minister retorts, these things expand and there is no way to build trust,” Bolojan said.

According to him, it is important to elect quality mayors, regardless of whether it is a one-round or two-round election.

„There are things that you can support, in principle, but that have no chance of being put into practice due to a reality, political realities. Who supports or does not support, that is a situation. And I seek to be a balanced person in these areas. It does not mean that the two-round voting system will solve the problems. Do you know what solves the problem? To vote for quality people, from the first round or the second round,” the prime minister specified.

Asked if it is possible for former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban or Minister Dragos Pislaru to join the PNL, Bolojan replied that they supported the liberal Ciprian Ciucu in the campaign for the capital’s mayor. He mentioned that he „does not see a problem” in Orban’s return, but stated that there were no discussions with Dragos Pislaru on this subject.

„For example, the fact that Mr. Ludovic Orban would return to the PNL – I don’t see a problem on this topic, considering that he was a member of this party for years. (…) There is no discussion with Dragoş Pîslaru to come to the PNL,” he mentioned.AGERPRES
