Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated on Friday that, following the recent statements, the die has been cast and that on Monday, the PSD will vote, one way or another, to end its cooperation with Prime Minister Bolojan, adding that we are on the brink of a crisis that Romania does not need. He reaffirmed that he will not resign, because Romania needs the government to function and he has a duty to the country to ensure the government’s operation.
For his part, PSD President Sorin Grindeanu stated that the Social Democrats are holding consultations nationwide because Romania is at a “turning point” and the direction the party will take must be decided.
“The decisions the PSD will make will be in line with what the people want. Yes, 80% of Romanians currently say we are heading in the wrong direction,” Grindeanu argued.
He added that this government no longer offers hope. “Stability is good in a governing coalition when it brings prosperity,” Grindeanu stated.
“Based on the statements made so far, we could say that the die has been cast and that, on Monday, the Social Democratic Party will vote, one way or another, to no longer cooperate with Prime Minister Bolojan,” said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on RRA.
He noted that, “if we analyze what has happened in recent months, we see a series of criticisms from representatives of this party, which clearly violated the governing protocol stipulating that parties must not attack one another.”
“When the government machinery sees instability, it stops mobilizing, it no longer works with a sense of responsibility, and everyone starts wondering who’s coming, who’s leaving, who will stay—if they stay—in their position, and so on,” the prime minister added.
The head of the Executive added: “Obviously, against the backdrop of these statements, we are in the early stages of a crisis, which Romania does not need.”
