The interim chairperson of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Ilie Bolojan, announced on Monday that he proposed in the party’s National Political Bureau to participate in the government without any conditions, adding that the decision was made by a majority of votes.
„As far as participation in the government is concerned, we have correctly informed the members of the PNL leadership about the situation in which our country finds itself, about the fact that we are partially responsible for getting into this situation, from which we cannot evade and that is why we proposed to our colleagues to approve PNL’s participation in the government, without any conditions related to one person or another. (… ) The vote that the colleagues gave – and it was a vote with a very large majority – was to assume this responsibility to participate in the government, without any form of conditionality whatsoever regarding positions or persons, but to put pressure first of all on the part of reducing expenses and then on the aspects that concern possible increases in taxes and duties,” said Ilie Bolojan, after the meeting of the National Political Bureau of the PNL, which took place at the Palace of Parliament.
He went on to say that the PNL has a set of measures that it will support in discussions with parliamentary parties and formations.
„We are in a complicated situation because, apart from the percentage figures which show that at the end of last year we had a deficit of about 9% of Romania’s GDP, this figure may not seem worrying, but when we relate it explicitly to the difference between state revenues and its spending we find that we have revenues of 570 billion at the end of last year and we had expenditures of over 720 billion. The difference between the state revenues and the expenditures of the Romanian state in one year is 150 billion RON, which means about 30 billion EUR,” said Ilie Bolojan.
