PNL President Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that, although Siegfried Mureșan’s nomination for the post of prime minister came three months late, the party would treat the situation ‘responsibly’ and would try, depending on its electoral weight, to form a government.

”Although this nomination came almost three months late, the responsibility we have was just as valid three months ago as it is today: to try, within our means and depending on our electoral weight, to form a government, and PNL will treat this situation responsibly.

We will not come forward with programmes, nor support programmes, that are not based on realities and that create expectations which cannot be met by our economic situation. As I also said in the statements I made after the consultations, regardless of who is nominated, elected and appointed as prime minister of Romania, the problems will be the same.

These are problems relating to maintaining financial balances, and we will carry out an assessment in the immediate period ahead.

These are problems relating to the functioning of the state and its main public services, the preparation of next year’s budget and the creation of the conditions for the relaunch of the Romanian economy.

This means a government that proposes the right measures, a government that takes account of our interests, the international situation in which we find ourselves, the economic constraints and the crises we are facing, and that comes up with solutions for Romania.

That is what we will do in the coming days, and we will take part in the negotiations that will begin in the coming days,” Ilie Bolojan said.
