Published on

Five men from Sri Lanka were discovered, on Wednesday, while attempting to leave the country illegally at the western border, hidden in the side storage box of a truck driven by a Romanian who declared that he was transporting goods to Italy.

The truck is registered in Romania and was checked at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point, according to a press release by the Arad Border Police.

„According to the documents accompanying the goods, the driver was transporting goods on the Romania-Italy route. Following the thorough control of the means of transport, five foreign citizens were discovered hidden in the driver’s cabin, respectively in the side storage box of the semi-trailer. The persons were picked up and transported to the headquarters of the sector for investigations, where, following the checks, the border police established that they are Sri Lankan citizens, aged between 25 and 45, who intended to cross the border illegally,” reads the said source.

The driver is being investigated for migrant trafficking and the foreigners are being investigated for attempting to fraudulently cross the state border.
