The Council of Justice and Internal Affairs on Thursday rejected the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area, with two votes being against, in the conditions where unanimity was needed, according to Agerpres.

Among the 27 EU member countries, Austria and the Netherlands voted against, the latter stating that it only opposes the accession of Bulgaria, according to concordant sources from Brussels, who state, however, that discussions continue on the subject of the accession of Romania and Bulgaria,.

The European Commissioner for European Affairs, Ylva Johansson, announced on Thursday that Romania and Bulgaria have not yet been admitted to the Schengen Area.
