Romania comes with solutions, partnerships and dialogue, with active energy diplomacy. Together we build a secure, accessible and sustainable energy future for the region and Europe, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting in Baku dedicated to the Southern Gas Corridor, the Minister of Energy had a series of bilateral meetings that were extremely useful for Romania’s involvement in the region’s strategic energy projects, but also for the development of the sector at the national level.

The Romanian official met with Erik Jacobs, representative of the US Department of State, and discussed our solid partnership in the field of energy: the development of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda, small modular reactors (SMRs), strengthening transmission networks and expanding production from renewable sources, including geothermal energy.

Also, during the meeting with Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, there was talk about the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, the Green Corridor project and the collaboration between Romgaz and SOCAR regarding gas supply and activities in Romania.

Burduja analyzed, together with Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish Minister of Energy, cooperation in the Black Sea area, in the fields of gas, nuclear and renewable energy, and presented the status of the Neptun Deep project and the potential for investments in solar and wind energy.

During the meeting with Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, they talked about the continuation of gas and electricity interconnection projects. Romania will always be with our brothers across the Prut, declared Burduja.

The Minister of Energy also met with EBRD representatives, for support in green energy investments, with an emphasis on the Contracts for Difference scheme, supported by memorandum since 2023, and with SOCAR management, for the expansion of activity in Romania, in the context of a successful partnership on our market.
