More than 160,000 hectares of the 174,000 hectares of crops established in the fall of 2023 were affected by the pedological drought, it appears from a situation prepared by the Directorate for County Agriculture (DAJ), the lowest productions being recorded for corn and sunflower.

According to the DAJ, the 2023-2024 agricultural year began with an autumn in which the hydrothermal regime in the air and soil did not allow the normal development of the vegetation processes in autumn crops.

„After a winter without snow, without much precipitation, Buzau county also experienced a spring without rain. The structure of the crops and the average productions obtained for the agricultural year 2023-2024 is as follows: wheat 66,475 ha-1525 kg/ha, barley 12,791 ha -1455 kg/ha, barley autumn 2,444 ha-1310 kg/ha, autumn rapeseed 17,686 ha-1640 kg/ha, sunflower 43,220 ha-700 kg/ha, maize 75,114 kg/ha-937 kg/ha the 174,200 ha of crops established in the fall In 2023 and the spring of 2024, 164,880 ha were declared a calamity,” DAJ informs.

As a result of the losses recorded in 2024, more than 8,000 cases were drawn up to ascertain and assess the damage to agricultural crops.

„According to the productions obtained, it can be very clearly observed that the year 2024 continues the series of dry years, after long periods with temperatures over 40 degrees and very low precipitation were recorded during the months of June and July,” the quoted source said.
