The number of individual investors on the Romanian market should be tripled, from approximately 130,000 at present, stated, on Monday, the managing director of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), Adrian Tanase, at a conference titled „How do we make the stock market more attractive for new issuers and investors? How do we attract new significant players from the Romanian private economy to the stock market?”, according to Agerpres.
„We have many more investors on the market compared to two years ago. We now have 130,000 individual investors. We are still at a low level compared to Romania’s active population. We will have to triple this number of investors, not just to be compared to Poland. There are Romanian companies, champions of the national economy, whom we hope to see on the market,” Adrian Tanase told the mentioned conference organized by DC Media Group.
He emphasized that there is „a class of companies that we must help to get financing”.
The managing director of the BVB emphasized that the Bucharest Stock Exchange cannot develop „without the participation and the significant contribution of the authorities”.
„If someone imagines that the Bucharest Stock Exchange can develop on its own, without the participation and the significant contribution of the authorities to its development, this is an illusion from my point of view. A market like ours, from this level, it can only develop into emerging market or the developed market with the participation of the authorities and the competition of the political spectrum. From a certain level we can hope that this market will start to support itself, but until then we will have to work together,” added Tanase.
