Caciu, on possibility of increasing VAT again: Exclude PSD from any discussions

Published on

PSD deputy Adrian Caciu declared on Monday that PSD does not agree with a new VAT increase, noting that such a measure excludes the Social Democrats from the discussions.

Asked about the possibility of increasing VAT again in October, Adrian Câciu said: „If someone thinks like this from the coalition or from the parties that form the coalition, I tell you that this excludes PSD from any discussions, and if they have no other solutions, the Ministry of Finance should give in.”

„I said it once before: this VAT increase, ok, I accepted it, it was Mr. Bolojan’s decision, although, you know very well, the president also said not to increase VAT. It could have been replaced very simply with that tax „on the rich”, as I call it, the progressive tax. Why do we absolutely have to increase prices for all the people, when some people have 40% of the population’s income? Maybe you don’t know the figures: 1,900,000 people have 40% of the total income, while the others, up to 20 million – almost 18,000,000 people – have only 60%,” Caciu added.

The social democrat pointed out that such a measure would be taken „without PSD”.

„If they say there’s not enough money, they’d still be a little unserious. You do the reform from package one, you do package two, you come up with package three, which we’ll soon launch for economic stimulation, and you say we don’t have enough money, that we still need to introduce VAT? No, let’s go without PSD,” Caciu added.
