The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Wednesday a draft law establishing the year 2026 as „Constantin Brancusi Year”.
There were 275 votes in favour and one against.
„The year 2026 is hereby declared Constantin Brancusi Year, to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist Constantin Brancusi,” the legislative act provides.
Parliament, the Presidential Administration, the Government, local public authorities, as well as public institutions under their subordination or coordination, may organise or support – logistically and financially – cultural, artistic, or educational events dedicated to celebrating the life and work of Constantin Brancusi.
They may allocate funds from their own budgets for the proper organisation and running of these events, within the limits of the approved budget allocations, the draft law further stipulates.
Social Democrat Deputy Natalia Intotero, the bill’s initiator, said the year 2026 will be a „key moment to help continue efforts to support the Romanian cultural heritage left as a legacy by the one who wrote – and continues to write – history for Romania: Constantin Brancusi.”
„I very much hope that the initiatives launched by the National Heritage Institute regarding the restoration of Brancusi’s works in Targu Jiu will continue,” Intotero added.
The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body in this case.
