The speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, stated on Friday that he will always oppose, „with all his strength”, violence and extremism, stressing that the Holocaust represents a „huge tragedy”, according to Agerpres.
„Here we are together again, at the Choral Temple, commemorating and paying our respects to those who fell victims of the Holocaust, this huge tragedy in our history. On this occasion, we renew our responsibility to never forget the horrors of this scourge. We must remind ourselves, at the same time, of the permanent need to combat any form of intolerance and discrimination. Let’s not forget that the collapse of values and the disintegration of institutions have had the most serious consequences, millions of innocent people thus becoming the victims of enormous, incomprehensible cruelties,” Ciolacu said, at an event dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust, organized by the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, at the Coral Temple in Bucharest.
„Allow me to express on this occasion, charged with deep emotion, my most sincere tribute to the victims of the Holocaust everywhere. I assure you that, as I have done in all my work up to now, I will continue to combat any form of hatred and discrimination and to support the fundamental freedoms and rights that define the democratic Romanian society. I will always oppose, with all my forces, violence and extremism, because my belief is that only through tolerance and dialogue can we build real bridges,” Marcel Ciolacu added.
