Chief of Defence Staff: Allied states to increase number of forces and capabilities in Romania

Published on

The allied states will increase the number of their forces and capabilities in Romania, said on Friday, Chief of the Defence Staff (SMAp) Daniel Petrescu, who participated, together with Minister of Defense Angel Tilvar, in the military ceremony dedicated to the Day of the General Staff, which took place at the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) headquarters, according to Agerpres.

The ceremony was part of the series of events dedicated to the 163rd anniversary of the establishment, on November 12, 1859, by the High Order of the Day of Ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza, of the General Staff Corps of the United Principalities, a strategic structure for the design and planning of the army whose battle tradition the Defence General Staff carries forward today, shows a MApN press release.

„We will continue, at an accelerated pace, the consolidation of our own defence capacity, and the allied states will increase the number of their forces and capabilities in Romania. Since the previous anniversary, the multitude of challenges to which we have responded have made this short period a particularly charged one. We all faced, as a team, the complexity of the activities, just like during the pandemic. Without your involvement and dedication, colleagues from the departments and subordinate structures, the results that, within the framework of this festivity, I appreciate as excellent, would not have been achieved,” said the head of the SMAp, according to the cited source.

The Minister of Defence pointed out that „the role of the Defense General Staff remains as important today, in the current security context”.

„You, those who are currently part of the structures of the Defense General Staff, are the ones from whom not only vision is expected, but also the ability to interpret the data of the present, not only the correct identification of priorities, but also the solutions for their implementation with efficiency and in the shortest possible time,” Tilvar told those present.

The series of events dedicated to the Day of the General Staff also includes the 4th annual International Scientific Conference Romanian Military Thinking, which will take place between November 15 and 17. The theme of the current edition is „Dynamics of security architecture in the extended area of the Black Sea”.
