Ciolacu calls for legislative steps when „bosses of state-owned companies lose their grip on reality”

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that legislative steps and political responsibility are needed when „certain bosses of state-owned companies completely lose their grip on reality”, stressing that the government will not approve the budgets of companies or corporations that come up with aberrant proposals to increase executive compensation, bonuses or retirement bonuses.

„I was outraged to read that a bunch of leaders from the National Road Investment Company are tripling their compensations – with great audacity and without batting an eye – while we are all talking about cutting expenses and a moderate budget. They proposed the tripling and it was also them who approved it! What does the public opinion rightly say, in this situation?! Something like this is aberrant and outrageous. And the explanation that others have done the same in the past is all the more defiant. Is the remuneration considered too small?! No one keeps you tied to that warm seat in the public system. There are millions of people who work hard in the private sector from morning to night for much less money. I will approve no budget of any company or corporation that comes up with such aberrations,” Ciolacu wrote on Monday in a Facebook post.

The prime minister also announced the urgent promotion of a regulatory act that would limit the compensation of members of the Boards of Directors of state-owned companies. „Everyone must understand that Romania is no longer a guardless orchard to plunder,” Ciolacu stressed.
