Ciolacu on his presidential bid: I take the decision with my colleagues, because it is not my own desire

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that the candidate the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will file in for the presidential election will be decided together with all the party’s leaders.

Ciolacu was asked, at the PSD headquarters, what option PSD will take for this year’s presidential election and if he personally wanted to run for the highest public position in the country.

„The option that PSD will choose will be announced after I talk to my colleagues. (…) We all want a lot in life. I make that decision with my colleagues, because it is not my own wish, we do not say a prayer and we make a wish. Things in politics are more complicated,” said Ciolacu, insisting that PSD will have its own presidential candidate.

He added that PSD and the National Liberal Party (PNL), both at rule in a ruling coalition, decided at a coalition meeting to form a majority in the Bucharest General Council.

„What we decided is – where we ran together to create majorities together, such as Brasov, Timis. Where we each have majorities alone is the decision of the organisations, otherwise, we will meet with each chapter chair, both me and Mr. Ciuca, and we will talk about majorities and approach. Moreover, we have decided that we will create a majority in the Bucharest General Council . (…) I tell you what I did together with Mr Secretary General Bode, with Mr Secretary General Stanescu, we on to the fixation of knowledge, that is exactly what Mr. Bode said, and we passed over those points,” Ciolacu stressed.
