PNL (National Liberal Party) chair Nicolae Ciuca on Thursday stated that the governing coalition established, considering also what was discussed with the other political parties, to hold the next elections on December 1, which is also the national holiday of the Romanians, a day which he says can also be regarded as a „celebration of democracy,” while adding that PNL and PSD (Social Democratic Party, PNL’s governing partner) will both have their own candidate in the presidential elections.
„All these options have been taken into account, so that we can have a calendar in accordance with the provisions of the laws in force. After talks with the other political parties as well, we came to the conclusion that there would be no problem to hold the elections on December 1,” Ciuca said at the PNL headquarters.
The governing coalition has completed the discussions on the electoral calendar for the presidential and parliamentary elections, the first of which will take place on November 24, respectively on December 8, and the elections for the Legislature on December 1.
