The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciuca, said on Wednesday that the purchase of F-35 aircraft, which will replace the current F-16 fleet, reflects our country’s commitment to maintain air superiority in an insecure, rapidly evolving landscape.
„I will always campaign for a safe and modern Romania, and the country’s security is intrinsically linked to the strength and modernization of our armed forces. That is why I am glad that the bill was published for the purchase of F-35 aircraft, which will replace the current F-16 fleet. This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining air superiority in an uncertain, rapidly evolving landscape. We see how the last few years have brought a new reality to the aviation field: drones, guided missiles and other advanced technologies have become the norm,”, Ciuca wrote on Facebook.
In his opinion, Romania must keep up with these developments.
Considering Romania’s strategic position on NATO’s Eastern Flank, our role in ensuring the security of the entire Alliance is a crucial one. The integration of F-35 aircraft into our air force is not only about protecting our borders and airspace; it is a vital step in strengthening NATO’s collective defense. Thus, Romania’s role in the North Atlantic security architecture will become much more important,” says Ciuca.
As autocratic regimes continue to defy the determination of Western nations to protect democracy, Romania must remain vigilant and ready for anything, he added.
„Modernizing our army is not only a necessity, it is a responsibility. Together with the PNL, I am fully committed to ensuring that Romania continues to be a strong, safe and ready country to face any challenge,” said Nicolae Ciuca, President of the Senate.
