The National Liberal Party (PNL) has been present and active in all the important events in which Romania has been built, the party’s chairman, Nicolae Ciuca, emphasised on Friday, on the occasion of the 149th anniversary of the founding of the political party.

„In almost a century and a half, PNL has been present and active in all the important events that have built the Romania we know today. Liberals have been the political engine that started or unlocked turning points in our history: independence, the Great Union, agricultural, economic and educational reforms,” Ciuca wrote on Facebook.

According to him, „whenever the country has had a liberal prime minister, there have been economic developments or structural reforms.”

„Romania’s history over the last 149 years has been written simultaneously with that of our party. Since the period of the political clubs that preceded the foundation of PNL, whenever the country has had a liberal prime minister, there have been economic developments or structural reforms. During the period of illegality imposed by the communist regime, the Liberal leaders suffered and died together with the Romanians thrown into prisons. The rebirth of the country after the December 1989 Revolution also marked the return of the National Liberal Party to political life,” added the PNL leader.

He added that the Liberals are today „just as firm in defending Romania’s interests.” AGERPRES
