Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca declared after the meeting of the party’s National Political Bureau on Monday that he is „the only Romanian politician” who has shown honor, giving as an example the PNL-PSD government rotation.
„In Romanian politics, I am the only one who showed honor when I handed over the governing mandate. When others will do it too, we can sit down to discuss. But I remember that others dragged their feet and had a different approach when they held the same position at the same Palace of Government,” said the Liberal leader.
He emphasized that he has never given reason to criticism for not keeping his word.
„My honor was, is and will remain for Romania and for the Romanians. I have a career behind me and throughout this career I have proven honor and dignity, and failing on this has never been held up against me until now. Things are different in political life, but I think the difference must be made by the fact that those who raised such a subject should first of all look at their own performance and if they do so, they will draw the conclusion by themselves. Honor is not a phrase to toy with at all the meetings, whenever you are irked by something. You have it or not, and once again, I never spoke ill of any of them, nor do I want to. There are far more important things we need to elaborate on and discuss,” Ciuca pointed out, stressing that the PSD-PNL debate on honor is „just a politically-driven spat”.
„As many times before, instead of dealing with the important themes that are really the prerogative of political leaders, of those at rule, we are dealing with issues that take the discussion in a completely different direction,” Nicolae Ciuca said.
