Ciuca: Romania’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program will further strategic relationship with the US

Published on

Romanian Senate Chairman Nicolae Ciuca, the national leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), believes that the efforts for Romania’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver programme will further strengthen the strategic relationship with the US.

„I am pleased to break the news of Romania’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver programme, which will allow Romanians to travel visa-free to the United States from 2025. Throughout 2023, we had direct discussions with US senators and made intense diplomatic efforts to achieve this status. In March, Senators Durbin and Shaheen introduced a bill in the US Congress to support Romania in this endeavour,” Ciuca wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.

According to Ciuca, „it was a crucial moment and a strong signal” from the American partners.

„When I was the prime minister, I appointed a national coordinator for Visa Waiver so that all bodies work together to meet the necessary technical and security criteria. These efforts will not only facilitate travel, but will further strengthen our strategic relationship with the US to the benefit of every Romanian. I want to thank all the teams involved for the determination and professionalism they have shown in fulfilling this major objective.”
