The mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc told a Monday’s press conference that the city he leads has the largest budget of a county capital municipality in Romania and that it has increased 20 times in the last 20 years.
„I would like to point out that we have the largest budget in the history of this city, the largest budget of a county capital municipality in Romania, a budget that also has many responsibilities and through which we have developed many projects. Practically, the budget of Cluj has increased 20 times in the last 20 years, which shows the good direction in which the city is going. Obviously, we would have needed about three more budgets to cover only part of the requests that came after the budget debate”, said the mayor.
Emil Boc declared on February 24 that the budget of Cluj-Napoca is 5 billion lei, the second largest in Romania, after that of the capital city.
„The first conclusion of the 2025 budget is a positive one: Cluj is growing economically and budgetary-wise. We continue to maintain Cluj in first place. It is the municipality with the largest budget in Romania after the country’s capital, which shows and speaks for itself about the economic potential and positive evolution of this city. In the last 20 years, Cluj’s budget has increased 20 times, from 236 million lei in 2003 to 5 billion lei in 2025,” he stated at the time.
The mayor then added that the municipality is keeping the major infrastructure projects underway, the metro, the metropolitan belt, the metropolitan train, the Cluj-Oradea railway, with the Taietura Turcului passage, the connection of Cluj to the highway at Tureni, the Regional Emergency Hospital and the Transylvania Highway.
